Removing the Old Shower Head

The first step involves removing the old one. There are different tools that you can use to remove it. You can either use a wrench or pliers. Using a strap wrench is recommended because it is the best option that minimizes the chances of damaging the old shower head.

You can use the wrench to grip the shower and then turn the connection nut in a counterclockwise direction. If you do not get one a pliers is still effective. However, you should put a rag between the pliers and the connecting nut. This technique will help to prevent it from getting scratched. You should then turn the nut using your fingers. Once you remove it you can take the shower head off.

Cleaning the Shower Head

The next step involves cleaning the threads of the shower arm. The threads are usually located where the shower arm connects to the shower head. Cleaning it can be done using a wire brush. When you are done cleaning it thoroughly there should be no tape or debris in the threads.

Installing the New Shower Head

You should then wrap the plumber’s tape around the threads that are found at the shower arm. Several layers of tape should be used and wrapped tightly. After this is done you can proceed to install the new one. You should hold the shower arm steady and use your hands to put the new one to the shower arm. Turn it once or twice in a clockwise direction. You should then put a cloth around the shower head then tighten it with a wrench. It should be done in a clockwise motion.

Checking the Shower Head for Correct Installation

The last step involves making sure that it was done correctly.  Check to see if there are any leaks by turning the shower on. If there are any leaks you should remove it then re-tape the shower arm threads before re-installing the shower head. The same process should be repeated until there are no more leaks. You can take extra precautions such as putting a glass to the wall and listening keenly to find out whether there are any leaks in the pipes, which you cannot see. A professional plumber should be contacted if any leaks are detected.
